| 520 | _aThe study of acidogenesis of waste activated sludge was carried out using 4-lab-scale complete mixing reactors in the batch operation. The objectives was to evaluate the performance of pretreatment by autoclave, the effects of sludge renewal ratio and batch operation time. The reactors were fed with autoclaved sludge at 20%, 30% and 40% renewal ratios and the control reactor was fed with raw sludge at 30% renewal ratio. The batch operations were carried out at 2-day, I-day and 0.5-day intervals. The results showed better degradation of autoclaved sludge and highest VF A production at 40% renewal ratio for each reaction time and 0.5-day reaction time for each renewal ratio. For each type of VFA produced, optimum acetic acid production was also found to be 40% renewal ratio at 0.5-day reaction time. Propionic acid production was found highest in 20% renewal for each reaction time and 2-day reaction time for each renewal ratio. But the production of isobutyric acid and butyric acid which were of minority could not be optimized because the concentrations produced did not differ much in each reactor. | ||
