| 520 | _aThe behavior of a nonaxisymmetrically loaded thin circular cylindrical shell with many long equidistant ring supports is studied by using a simplified theory. The characteristics of this problem are governed by three parameters: (1) the Poisson's ratio v; (2) the radius to thickness ratio a/h; and (3) the length to radius ratio t/a of the thin circular cylindrical shells. The explicit solutions are obtained by considering the following three loading conditions; dead load, vertical live load, and internal hydrostatic pressure. In solving these problems, the solution is di vided into two parts, namely the particular solution and the complementary solution. The total solution is obtained by combining the complementary solution with the particular solution. This process solution leads to a set of linear simultaneous equations. The results of the parametric study of a thin circular cylindrical shell of practical Poisson's ratios, the radius to thickness ratios, and the length to radius ratios, are presented graphically for the purpose of design of this type of structures. | ||
