| 520 | _aThe study aims to analyze the private vehicle ownership pattern in the Kathmandu valley. A questionnaire survey is done to understand the household vehicle ownership trend and it is analyzed using MNL model. The results revealed that motorcycle dominates over private cars in the valley. The total vehicle ownership is dependent on income, number of licensed drivers and road density. According to the study, there is a decrease in the no vehicle group as income increases. Motorcycle ownership is highly influenced by the number of licensed drivers. Also, road density variable is seen to affect the motorcycle ownership negatively. Household with low road density are likely to own motorcycle. A projection of household vehicle ownership for the whole valley is also done. It is observed that the total household with no vehicle is 43.2%, household with motorcycle ownership is 50% and household with both car and motorcycle (or car alone) are 6.8%.Also, a prediction is done for 2022 and it is observed that household with no vehicle are likely to be 32.1%, with motorcycle are likely to be 55.8% and with both car and motorcycle are likely to be 12.1%. Similarly, for 2032 household with no vehicle are likely to be 24.4%, with motorcycle are likely to be 54.9% and with both car and motorcycle are likely to be 20.7%. | ||
