520 _aThis study is concerned with the fluidized bed combustion of lignite. different sets of experiments have been performed in the fluidized bed with lignite. Test experimental runs with relatively big size (1.00mm to 6.3mm) feed has been performed without ash overflow unit using sand as the inert bed material with the purpose of breaking ash particles and collect as carryover with fly ash in the cyclone. The result of this test experimental run showed that as a result of continuous run the big sizes of ash accumulate in the bed and ultimately result in loss of fluidization. Another three sets of experimental runs have been performed with different feeding rates from 200kg/h/m2 to 300kg/h/m2 wih an ash overflow unit. The results showed that high combustion efficiency can be obtained at lower feeding rate and at higher air-fuel ratios and at higher mean bed temperatures. There is a considerable loss of available heat due to the formation of CO at lower air fuel ratios. At higher air-fuel ration there is again loss of available heat due to the carryover of carbon dust with fly ash and the bed ash. In both of test runs and the experimental runs there is a possibility of formation of ash agglomeration at temperatures above 950 c̕. The high ash (40%) lignite could be successfully burnt in this fluidized bed combustor in which ash particles acted as inert the bed material.
