520 _aNepal government has imposed load shedding on Nepali citizens since 2006 due to unavailability of sufficient power to meet the growing demand. Cooking gas and diesel supplies are subject to regular interruptions too due to disturbances in imports of these from India. In 2015,unofficial blockage imposed by India on Nepali borders worsened the situation. Hotel industry which is an important contributor in Nepali economy is worst affected by the energy crisis as electricity, cooking gas and diesel are essential to its daily operations. Solar technology has geographically huge potential in Nepal and many solar companies are established in the country which can provide required technology for the hotel industry to tackle the energy crisis. However, solar technology has not been adopted widely by the hotel industry to overcome shortages despite the presence of 46 authorized commercial solar dealers in the country. Out of the 8 hotels studied, 1 hotel had adopted solar energy technology with self-sustainability, reduction of pressure on national grid, energy cost saving, reduction of diesel consumption and reputation enhancement as goals and 2 hotels were in the process of adopting it for achieving LEED certification and to comply with the recommendations of energy audit. While, prior investment in diesel generator was studied as the main barrier concerning most of the hotels, lack of awareness about solar technologies, government{u2019}s weak promise of ending load shedding in few years, high initial investment cost, unavailability of local solar technology manufacturers, lack of awareness and trust on governments{u2019} subsidy scheme, disturbances in looks of hotel and space constraint were other observable barriers concerning majority of the hotels studied during the research
