| 520 | _aA study was made on potential ground movements associated with MRT tunnelling in Bangkok subsoils. The MRT Blue Line which is the first subway project of Thailand was used as a reference case. The prediction of ground movements was made by mean of empirical and numerical analysis method (FLAC). Seven generalized cases (4 cases for side-by-side tunnel and 3 cases for stacked tunnel) were studied. Volume of ground loss (VL=VS) between 1.0-3.0 % were analyzed. On the empirical prediction, Peck (1969)'s method and Norgrove (1978)'s method give the value of "i" comparable with the FLAC prediction. The results of FLAC show that the maximum surface settlement of tunnelling in soft to stiff clay are larger than tunnelling in sand at the same volume of ground loss. And the soil movements above the crown are principally in vertical direction, while the soil movements in soft clay are bound by the straight line drawn about 45° from the bottom of the soft clay layer to the ground surface but the soil movements above tunnel in stiff clay and sand are quite vertical. | ||
