| 520 | _aVariation in the energy intensity of industrial sector can be expla ined by two main factors: changes in the industrial structure (structural effect) and variations in the energy intensity of individual sector (sectoral energy intensity effect). The basic purpose of this study is to identify the role of structural changes as well as the contribution of the various sectors in the variation of industrial energy intensities of five Asian countries: R.O. Korea, Indonesia, P.R. China, Thailand and India. The Divisia method is employed in this analysis. The results reveal that the rising share in total industrial output of such less energy intensive sectors as equipment products in Korea and China, and textile in Thailand resulted in a decrease in the overall energy intensity of industry. On the other hand, the industrial intensity in Indonesia has increased due to the development of energy intensive sectors. | ||
