The battery is expensive and cause some losses due to inefficient electrical-chemical conversation, which was about 80% each time when charged and discharged which bring about 60 to 70% overall. In this research, the battery which was chemical storage was tried to be substituted by latent heat storage. At temperature higher than its melting point, it will store cooling effect in sensible heat from and at temperature equals its melting point it will store the cooling effect in latent heat form which is very energetic. First, the system was introduced and the suitable latent storage material was recommended. There are many compounds which have m.p. in this cooling temperature range but the m.p. and high latent heat stored but these are not the two properties which should be considered, the others are vapor pressure, corrosion, poisonous, inflammable, reproducible, supercooling, volume change, thermal conductivity, abundant and cheap. Then comes the suitable materials for this range of application, the salt hydrates which satisfied these requirements. The minimum size of the PV array and battery capacity was determined and then simulated the system hourly by Prof. Exell's solar radiation simulation model to find the combination of The PV array and battery size at no latent storage and at various latent storage size. With latent storage, the size of the PV array and the battery capacity both decreased then it bring about the saving in PV array and battery. The refrigeration system at Energy Technology Division Laboratory was simulated with latent storage to study the system behavior and to determine the optimum latent material from the two criteria, its melting point and the capacity. Then the latent material should be water which is free or the hydrate of NaF and use the Container of plastic (it can resist any king of plastics), to retard the heat transfer because it m.p. lower than the operating temperature. | ||
