520 _aMobile localization is a required service in the future wireless mobile communication system because several applications, which are of interest by both commercial and governmental organizations, need to know the location of mobile user. The major difficulty of determining the mobile location is occurred when applying the estimation algorithms to the multipath environment that has no line of sight propagation. In this thesis work, an algorithm for jointly estimating the propagation delays and the directions of arrival (DOAs) of the multipath signals is proposed to determine the mobile location. In order to achieve the incoming signals information including propagation delays and DOAs, the deployment of adaptive antenna array at the base stations needs to be performed. The simulation model is implemented to show that the achieved parameters can be used to determine the mobile location in multipath environment. The proposed algorithm is modified from the time-space-time multiple signal classification (TST-MUSIC) algorithm in order to reduce the computation complexity, but still obtain the high accuracy result. Furthermore, the introduced method offers the advantage of better performance, especially in situations where the incoming signals are highly correlated. The proposed algorithm can estimate the propagation delays and DOAs in the situation that the number of incoming signals is greater than the number of antennas. The simulation results clearly illustrate that the proposed algorithm performs under the situation that the incoming signals having either the value of delays or DO As closely to the others. Additionally, the estimation time of the proposed algorithm is less than the one produced by TST-MUSIC.
