520 _aThis study focused on the application of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) tools on the development of a marina (small boat harbor) in Krabi province. Generally, it aimed to demonstrate the usefulness and importance of ICM tools in marina development. Specifically, it aimed to 1) identify potential sites for marina in Krabi by using Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, 2) assess the environmental, socio-economic, and institutional aspects of potential sites that will be affected by the marina development, 3) apply the Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) technique as a decision-support tool and 4) cone up with recommendations toward sound planning and management of marina applicable in Krabi province. The use of the different tools of ICM made the work faster, easier and cost-effective. RS and GIS made the selection of potential sites easier and were verified by ground survey. Environmental, socio-economic and institutional assessments were helpful in assessing the different factors needed for the planning of a marina. A BCA was useful in supporting the decision by the investors regarding the project. Krabi has a long stretch of coastal area with beautiful sceneries and rich in coastal resources. Among the many villages located in the coastal area, only two (Ban Ko Kwang and Ba Kantiang) were chosen as good sites for marina development. However, it was Ban Ko Kwang which best fit the criteria for the development with the help of a SWOT analysis done for the two sites. The assessment of the environmental factors related to marina requirements was done but the results were not satisfactory since most data were applicable for the whole province. Socio-economic assessment showed a satisfactory result which is good for the implementation of the marina development based on the indicators used. A more or less homogenous and educated community will make the implementation of the project easier and successful. It was then analyzed through the use of BCA which gave a positive indication of a good investment. The analysis of the institutional structure of Krabi showed that the OrBorJor office of the Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) under the Office of the Governor was the main actor responsible for the implementation of whatever developments there is in the province. It %gas recommended, however, that production of topo and land use maps through RS and GIS and an updated database of the province be made in order to monitor and evaluate the changes taking place in the coastal area for easy planning and management not only of the marina but of the coastal zone as %yell. The creation of a marina development committee was deemed important to have an interactive participation of every stakeholder
