520 _aThe Khlong Prasong, one of the sub-districts in Meung District in Krabi Province, was selected as the study area because the small-scale fisheries play an important role in the sub-district. Existing fisheries regulations implemented here was Top-down process, which lacked of people participation in decision-making process. Although the "comanagement process" was officially conducted, it was still in the legalized process at MoAC. However, some fishing conflicts were also found at site such as between smallscale and large-scale fishers and also among small-scale fishers themselves. In order to solve these problems, this study was conducted, aiming to achieve the following objectives: to assess the current status and conflicts of the small-scale fisheries through indigenous knowledge of the community by people participation, to evaluate the preference on management objectives and options by stakeholders' participation in decision analysis, and to provide the policy recommendations for sustainable small-scale fishery management in Khlong Prasong Sub-district by application of flexible management tools: PRA, GIS and AHP. PRA, GIS, literature review, and meeting with key informants were used to assess the current status and conflicts of the small-scale fisheries in the study area. The study used four methods of PRA: Participatory mapping method was used for analysis of pattern in space. The complicated fishing activities of five main fishing gears drawn on participatory maps were modified and shown on the GIS maps by using GIS as a tool. The fishing conflicts among fishers inside community and especially, outside community were presented. Seasonal calendar method was used to support the analysis of pattern in time. The results from problem ranking and brainstorming methods were used in problem analysis. The most serious problem found in PRA was "disagreement with the proposed measure of non transfer the permission/ license of shallow water stake trap fishers". Causes, solutions, and expected results from solutions were also shown in problem analysis. The objectives of "social aspect", "economic aspect", "ecological aspect", and "governmental/ institutional aspect" were included in the expected results of the fishers To evaluate the preference on management objectives and options by stakeholders' participation in decision analysis, AHP was applied. "Sustainable small-scale fishery management in Khlong Prasong Sub-district" was set as a goal in the decision-tree. The stakeholders selected "better quality of life" as the most priority for management objectives. Considering underlying criteria of "better quality of life'', the "reduced conflicts" was chosen as the most priority. "Ecosystem based" was prioritized as the first preference for management options. Finally, the policy recommendations for sustainable small-scale fishery management in Khlong Prasong Sub-district were provided based on the results of this study.
