520 _aThe Meghna· Donagodha Irrigation· Project (MDIP) constructed between 1982-1987 and breached occur in flood embankment during July, 1987 and August, 1988 by the severe flood in Bangladesh. It caused a damage of many infrastructures and irrigation lands have been silted up. There is a lot of changes in the land cover ·due to several natural disaster and rural infrastructure development. As the project is situated at the confluence point of the rivers Padma and Meghna, it faces bank and bed erosion. The embankment could have a significant impact on the lives of the people living inside them and in the neighborhood and general change in the environment will profoundly influence a whole ranges of the behaviors. A methodology is developed by integrated approach of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS. In this study, five satellite images from 1979 to 1996 were used for landuse change detection, bankline movement and update the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for the study area by the recent collected field survey data and also ground features from 1996 satellite image. Water surface and flood maps were generated from Mikel I based simulated water level point data through Triangular Irregular Network (TIN) and using DEM. Comparison study has been done for GIS flood modelling with the monsoon image and also with-without project scenario. The study refers that current landuse is comparatively dominated by the irrigated land a9d fallow land but in 1979, it was dominated by the winter crops (rabi season). The rate of changing from winter crops ( 1979) to irrigation field ( 1996) is very high and fallow land is also increased due to moisture deficit in the soil to the project area. It is also found that the average easting of left bank.line of the Meghna river moved 2345m near the Farakandi and 1415m near the Eklaspur during 1979 to 1996. The impact assessment result also represent the future trend of management of the project However, further study is required before any other recommendation to improve the current landuse planning.
