| 520 | _aQuarrying operation and concrete distribution are two of the most basic processes in the construction industry. Proper planning of these operations, therefore , would enhance minimization of cost and maximization of profit. A majority of construction situations involve a single-server system. Accordingly, data for this study have been collected from three different sources. The distributions of service times and inter-arrival times are established after intensive verification and validation as log-normal and Weibull, respectively. A simulation model is then formulated and a computer program for the same is written in FORTRAN language. Parameters obtained from the analysis of field data, which include scale and shape parameters of the Weibull distribution, mean and service times of the log-normal distribution, maximum number of truck arrivals and average truck-capacity utilized per trip are fed as input to the program and simulation output is obtained. This is then compared with the deterministic output derived from the field data. Further comparison is done on production rates derived by using the queueing theory. Results showed that production rates obtained from simulation and the queueing theory are lower than rea 1-world values. | ||
