520 _aThe main objective of this study is to develop a practical method to predict the outflow hydrograph of ungaged watersheds where the parameters of the watershed and rainfall characteristics are available. The study is confined to small watersheds where the distribution of rainfall and basin characteristics can be assumed constant. A nonlinear four-parameter storage function model is applied to simulated and actual flood data. This model considers only the overland flow phase and hence ignores the effect of the channel flow phase. A nonlinear six-parameter storage function model is developed and applied to simulated data. This model consists of a nonlinear two-parameter storage function model for the overland flow phase combined with a four-parameter storage function model for the channel flow phase. Simultaneous consideration of overland and channel flows is the main idea of the present study. A Newton-Raphson algorithm coupled with sensitivity analysis is adopted for the optimization process. The sensitivity analysis includes the components regression method. The four-parameter model can be applied satisfactorily to the actual system if the parameters are well defined. The six-parameter model can be applied only to simulated data under conditions. hence, further development is required.
