| 520 | _aAgrochemicals (e.g., fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, etc.) are essential to meet the global need for food, both quantitatively and qualitatively, but their unsafe, unselective, and repeated administration pose a hazard to the environment, human health, and a successful economy. Researchers are looking into ways to increase agricultural production as a result of growing sustainability worries about potential pesticide waste. In that regard, delivery methods based on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) represents newly conducted research field recently gaining increasing consideration in agriculture. Previous studies have already been performed on Cu-based MOFs (e.g., HKUST-1) as delivery agents in the agricultural sector. Moreover, the use of Copper salts is already established (e.g., CuSO4 as fungicide), and it is also an essential element for plants, therefore showing a dual nature of nutrients and pesticides. In this research, HKUST-1 was fabricated via a convenient one-step procedure involving the utilization of basic copper carbonate (BCC), a natural component of the minerals malachite or azurite. The synthesis was also performed in the presence of guest species like fertilizer (e.g., Urea), growth regulator (e.g., Gibrerelic Acid), insecticide (e.g., Imidacloprid), and fungicides (e.g., Mancozeb and Propineb). The guest@HKUST-1 system has been treated under different pH, temperature, and salinity, which simulate the soil parameters, to investigate the release profile of Urea, Mancozeb (MAN), Propineb (PRO), Imidacloprid (IMD), and Gibrerelic Acid (GA). The encapsulation capacities were 197.83, 213.22, 208.69, 218.75, and 244.38 mg/g for MAN, PRO, IMD, GA, and urea, respectively. The encapsulation showed these characteristics after more than seven days of sustained release. UV Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis.), Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AA-7000, Shimadzu), Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA-701, Leco), Dynamic light scattering (DLS, Malvern, AERO S), X-ray diffractometer (XRD, Bruker, D8 Advanced), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR, INFRA-3000 A), etc. have been used to determine the concentration, copper release, thermal stability, particle size, structural parameters, bonding characteristics, and surface area, respectively. | ||
