520 _aThe study is composed of two parts. The first part is concerned with prunning of Leucaena leucocephala at three different heights of prunning and three frequencies of prunning to study their effects on bio- mass production. The second part is concerned with the application of three levels of Phosphorus (TSP) and three levels of FYM (farmyard manure) in an acid sulphate soil to study their effects on bio-mass production in Gliricidia sepium and Leucaena diversifolia. These two experiments were conducted at AIT Farm during a five month period from January to May 1991. Bio-mass yield of fodder and fuel wood, flowering percentage, shoot growth and other parameters were monitored and recorded during the period of experimentation. Its observed that the total bio- mass yield is affected by both prunning height and frequency of prunning. Bio- mass yield and the growth performance of G. sepium and L. diversifolia are greatly promoted by Phosphorus (TSP} and FYM. It is also indicated that the fodder from L. diversifolia and G. sepium is good and nutritious as an animal feed. In terms of crude protein and digestible nutrients Leucaena and Gliricidia fodder are far better than tropical grasses and cereals.
