| 520 | _aThis studies focus is on mangrove ecosystem services in Tran De. It included income sources for prosperity of local communities, benefits from mangrove resources, perception of local people in mangrove issues, and opportunities to enhance the mangroves for sustainable development. The methods that have been used for this study were interview survey, transect survey, key informant survey, direct exploiter survey, and assessor survey. There were 140 households in four villages, who live near the coastal area that were chosen for the research. Both qualitative and quantitative information was collected, and analyzed by Minitab and Excel software. The result showed that aquaculture is the primary source of income for locals. Mangrove's resources also play a significant role to the community providing more than 70% of their income in some areas. Moreover, mangroves provided environmental goods for the community such as coastal erosion protection, storm protection, and protection from sea level rise. These resources concentration are unbalanced between villages leading to a different perception of issues. Perception of local people are affected by many factors such as age, gender, education, occupation, location, settlement time, and land possession being a combination of each issue. Seeing the long term benefits, the communities' perception of mangroves is high. Three of the four areas have been destroyed but in Trung Binh they are quickly expanding. Under the supervision of local authority the mangrove forests were kept in great condition. The transect survey showed that quality as well as quantity status of the forest were good. However, the mangroves still have three existing problems: aquatic exploitation, solid pollution and shrimp farm influences. Thanks to staying at an appropriate location, and under adequate managing of the government, potential for mangrove improvement in Tran De was satisfactory. Yearly, young trees are planted and protected carefully. All of these factors have promised a positive perspective for the mangroves in the future. This not only significantly contributes to the local communities but also plays an important role in terms of global warming. | ||
