520 _aThe purpose of this experimental program is to investigate the mechanical properties of Sisal Fiber- Mortar Composites. Sisal Fibers are used as reinforcement whereas 70% of cement plus 30% of rice husk ash is used as matrix. mechanical and physical properties Before determining the of Sisal Fiber-Mortar Composites, the properties of Sisal Fibers , Sand, Rice Husk Ash, and cement matrix are separately investigated. The composites have been tested in axial compression, flexure and for their water absorption property. The main parame ters in this experiment are the fiber-cement ratio, unit weight and fiber length. The fiber-cement ratios, unit weights and fiber lengths adopte d in this study are 0.150 , 0.155 , and 0.160 by weight , 1950 , 2050, and 2150 kg / m3 and 0, 1, and 2 cm. respectively . Test results indicated that the optimum mix of the composite was a mix having 1 cm. fiber length with fiber-cement ratio of 0.160 by weight and unit weight of 2150 kg/m3 . This optimum mix resulted in highest strength both in compression and flexure. Moisture content of the composites was found to be 4.8% and water absorption was 17. 2% by weight. The toughness and ductility of Sisal Fiber-Mortar Composites were also very high compared to those of Mortar boards which are available commercially.
