| 520 | _aThree cage wheels of diameter 0.86 m, 0.96 m and 1.06 m were used. Width of wheel and lug angle was kept constant at 30 cm and 300 respectively. Number of lugs were varied with respect to the diameter of cage wheel and were 12, 13 and 14 for 0.86 m, 0.96 m and 1.06 m respectively. Experiments were conducted in three moisture conditions of 45.85% d.b., 51.60% d.b. and 57.21% d.b. The slip was varying from 25%, 30% to 35%. Instrumentation system was developed and used to carry out experiments. Data were analyzed to observe the force behavior of cage wheel operated in above mentioned soil conditions and cage wheel dimensions. The empirical equations regarding the tractive performance of cage wheel were predicted by using dimensional analysis technique. The data were further analyzed by multiple regression analysis to study the parameters influencing the tractive performance of the cage wheel. Highest pull forces 700.93 N were obtained for 0.96 m diameter cage wheel at 35% slip for lower moisture. Least pull force 115.55 N was generated by 1.06 m diameter cage wheel at all slips compared to other two cage wheels. Highest lift forces 4241.97 N were generated by 0.96 m diameter cage wheel at 35% slip and least lift forces were generated by 1.06 m diameter cage wheel. Highest tractive efficiency 66.39% was observed for 0.86 m diameter cage wheel at 45.85% d.b. moisture content and 30% slip. Lowest tractive efficiency 15.29% was noted for 1.06 m diameter cage wheel at 45.85% d.b. moisture level. The 0.86 m diameter cage wheel obtained maximum drawbar power 389.26 W at 30% slip and 45.85% d.b. moisture content. Dimensional analysis showed influence of clay number, diameter, linear lug spacing, angular lug spacing of cage wheel and height of lug on tractive performance of cage wheels. But the influence of Froude{u2019}s number on the tractive performance was negligible. Multiple regression analysis showed that pull number was least influenced by system parameters. Among the cage wheel parameters axle load was one which affects the performance of cage wheel. Slip was the most influencing parameter on the tractive efficiency of cage wheels. | ||
