520 _aMany sensors and transducers used for real world applications demand the need for a signal conditioning system. The complete universal signal conditioning system is very complex and includes multiple functions, such as multiplexing, signal amplification, attenuation, filtering, electrical isolation, simultaneous sampling and digital to analog conversion. This thesis describes the development of a Programmable Gain Instrumentation Amplifier (PGIA) to be used for the universal signal conditioner. The demand for low-level signal conditioning at high CMRR puts up the challenge of developing a precise and efficient instrumentation amplifier. The gain setting can be either software based or hardware, allowing the user more flexibility in using the PGIA for desired applications.
