| 520 | _aA process for disposing the solid waste produced in the pineapple cannery, that will at the same time yield some economic product could be most useful. In this study attempt was made to produce alcohol, acetic acid and animal feed from the waste. The study for the optimum conditions for the production of alcohol showed an initial aeration period of 10 hours and an inoculum size of 15% (v/w) to be the best, along with pH 4.0. Addition of nutrients phosphate and nitrogen had no significant effect, The liquid obtained at the end of this process was used for acetic acid production. The optimum parameters were found to be pH 3.5 and an inoculum size of 10% (v/w). Addition of sugar prior to acetification had no effect on the ultimate yield. The solid waste left after extracting the fermented liquid was tested for its suitability as animal feed. On an average 5% of alcohol was got per kilo gram of waste. The conversion efficiency for acetic acid production was 91% over the orifical. Also the solids remaining after fermentation was improved in nutrient content and digestibility of the nutrients, | ||
