Energy auditing has been done in the thermal energy utilization unit . Break downs of energy consumption have been made. Energy analysis and availability analysis are applied to the melting units which are the most significant energy consumers. Both the first and second law efficiency of the melting units have been investigated. The important energy losses have been identified. Feasible energy conservation measures are applied. Use of waste heat instead of electrical energy to reduce oil viscosity can save about 1. 13 million baht/year. The cogeneration feasibility has been also investigated. The payback period of the cogeneration is less than 4 years while the system gives an internal rate of return of higher than 32 %.
