Food is one of the most basic necessities for human survival. People belonging to different religions consume different kind of food which is based on their religious ideologies and faith. Jews ensure that their food is kosher while Muslims can only consume food that is Halal. As the Muslim population is about 2 billion globally and the conversion rate is also quite high, thus the demand of halal food is fleeting. A mushroom growth of supplier is witnessed recently to fill the gap between demand and supply but the credibility of most of them is questionable. Thus the research study makes an effort to develop Islamic Shariah compliant supplier selection framework for halal food products. The foodstuff is divided into three main categories namely meat and poultry, fish and seafood, and readymade food. All the Shariah requirements pertinent to these food categories are mentioned in detail in the report. In addition, some general requirements have also been discussed thoroughly. Based on all the information, a framework is developed that could be used to select the suppliers for halal food products.
